“TRUTH SPELL”

I don’t feel like a person unless I’m high, sweating pumpkinpatchorange through the thick skull of my sweater, even in summer. I swear what I’m wearing is threadbare and keeping too close to the skin of my chest. I need You to know I’m not real when You’re curating our Instagram page, deleting pictures of me from the worst disaster of my life. I guess I know why, it’s easier to assume form as mist than flesh, how constricting it must be for You to breathe!

tommy wyatt (he/they) lives with his boyfriend and three fiendishly goofy cats. his poetry can be found in Fatal Flaw, manywor(l)ds, MAYDAY, Passengers Press, fifth wheel press, and others. they are the author of REALLY AFRAID (Querencia Press, forthcoming); So, Who's Courage? (Bullshit Lit., 2023); and others.
