“Slop-ed”
Once, I desired to write something great;
That all the world would quiet to listen
to hear me speak out in words all golden,
to watch my lips tremble with worldly weight,
to taste of Eve’s apple, fresh before hate,
to smell the orchard before spring’s blossom,
to caress Truth as if she were human.
But the truth is, it was never my fate
to enlighten the world with gospel talk
or pen a pure poem promising peace;
and yet, that’s not a good reason to stop
because I can grow and help to unlock
access to knowledge, and I’ll never cease
crafting my words, be they perfect or slop.
